Building and looking after FileMaker business systems for organizations is the core of my work, and has been for decades — the kind of systems that quietly run a business for ten years or more.

Day to day that means building new solutions, maintaining and troubleshooting ones already in daily use, modernizing long-lived systems, and integrating and extending FileMaker to fit the rest of a business’s tools.

That long history is also why the current moment interests me. FileMaker is changing, and so is the way you can work on it. What I’m paying attention to now:

• FileMaker 26 — where the platform is heading and what it changes for existing solutions.
• AI-assisted development — using AI to read, explain, and refactor solutions that have grown over many years.
• XML tooling — treating FileMaker’s clipboard and DDR XML as something you can inspect, diff, and transform.
• Modernizing long-lived systems — bringing older solutions forward without throwing away what already works.
